MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — This has traditionally been a tough matchup for Frank Mason.
Tuesday night’s game at No. 18 West Virginia represented another opportunity for the Kansas basketball guard to figure out one of the few teams he has yet to fully solve in this, his senior season. Last year, the then-junior Mason went 8 for 21 from the field against the Mountaineers in three contests, adding 11 assists and 11 turnovers.
While turnovers weren’t an issue in this year’s first meeting — Mason had only two against the WVU press in the No. 2 Jayhawks’ 85-69 defeat — the national player of the year candidate had a rough game overall, finishing with 15 points on 6-for-16 shooting and only a pair of assists.
