KU basketball destroys Austin Peay 105-79, advances to NCAA Tournament second round

DES MOINES, Iowa — The depth of the Kansas basketball team was on full display in Thursday’s NCAA Tournament opener.

Svi Mykhailiuk had a career-high 23 points, Jamari Traylor hauled in eight rebounds in the game’s first 14 minutes to set the tone, and the top-seeded Jayhawks routed their way to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 105-79 victory over Austin Peay at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Jayhawks (31-4) will now play No. 9 seed UConn on Saturday for a shot at their first Sweet 16 in three seasons. The Huskies advanced to the second round with a 74-67 comeback victory against Colorado earlier in the day.
