Kevin Haskin: Ability to run the football encouraging for Jayhawks

LAWRENCE — Any energy Kansas could build Saturday from an announcement the previous night of a $350 million renovation project devoted mostly to football was not pumped into Memorial Stadium.

The announced attendance for the game the Jayhawks played Saturday was just 23,901.

Just as depressing for the program, the buzz so many felt during the offseason — stoked by many positive updates from third-year coach David Beaty — was missing following back-to-back defeats to two Mid-American Conference teams.

The Jayhawks, however, did not seem to notice an environment suited to Raze The Chant. They did not even bother attempting to fulfill their Air Raid persona at the outset.
