Once again, the Kansas football team lost a student athlete. On Monday David Beaty took swift action and dismissed a player from his team. I am glad Beaty didn’t simply suspend Macaih Long. As a matter of fact, after learning of the allegations, Beaty probably had no choice. The Associated Press reported Long, 19, was in jail for alleged aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
I don’t know if I’d ever heard Long’s name until Monday. Now I don’t want to hear it again. Negative publicity surrounding Jayhawk athletes continues to show up in the news.
