The Capital-Journal

LAWRENCE — The home run ball sent the Kansas baseball team to a season sweep of in-state rival Wichita State.

Outfielder Dakota Smith hit a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to give the Jayhawks a lead they would not surrender in an 11-6 victory over the Shockers on Tuesday night at Hoglund Ballpark.

Matt Laughlin also added a two-run shot in the fourth for the Jayhawks (17-24), who have won eight straight games against the Shockers (14-26) dating back to April 30, 2013.

Shocker starter Reagan Biechler was chased in the third inning after allowing four runs, and McLaughlin’s shot in the fourth came off WSU reliever Taylor Goshen.
