Halftime observations: KU basketball vs. Austin Peay

The Kansas men’s basketball team leads Austin Peay, 48-28, at halftime in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. Here are four first-half observations:

• Forward Jamari Traylor was KU’s most energetic player in the first half, hustling to loose balls and rebounds while compiling eight rebounds and two steals in nine minutes. That was important in an environment with little energy.

• The Jayhawks also received a bench boost from Svi Mykhailiuk, who had 11 first-half points. He has a chance to set a new career high (he had 18 against Chaminade) if he plays extended minutes in the second half.
