Freshmen guards Grimes, Dotson pace KU to 92-87 victory over Michigan State

Downtown Marriott Hotel roommates Quentin Grimes and Devon Dotson chatted the night away on Monday, discussing all aspects of their upcoming official college debuts versus Michigan State in the Champions Classic.

“We were joking last night. He was like, ‘We’ve got our first college game in front of everybody,’’’ Kansas freshman guard Grimes said with a smile, speaking in a packed media room after the No. 1-ranked Jayhawks’ 92-87 victory over No. 10 Michigan State at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

“I think we were both nervous,” Grimes added. “Before the game we settled down a bit.”

The freshman duo combined for 37 points and seven assists against five turnovers in making KU fans feel a bit better about losing both Devonté Graham and Frank Mason off Jayhawk teams from the past two years.
