LAWRENCE — Two years ago, then-Kansas football coach Charlie Weis infamously relieved himself from the team’s play-calling duties, saying at the time, “I fired me as the offensive coordinator. How do you like that one?”
David Beaty is taking a slightly different approach.
Beaty, beginning his second season at the helm for the Jayhawks, will assume play-calling responsibilities and coach quarterbacks next season, he revealed Sunday at a news conference following the team’s first spring practice.
“I was really busy last year trying to really build the program, and you’ve got to be unselfish enough to understand what you can handle and it still be productive for your program,” Beaty said.
