LAWRENCE — Kansas coach David Beaty sometimes sees flashes of his former star pupil in Jayhawk wide receiver Chase Harrell.
One such instance came this weekend as Beaty watched film of the Jayhawks’ 55-6 victory over Rhode Island. Beaty, who coached wide receivers at Texas A&M from 2012-14, counts Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout and former first-round pick Mike Evans as perhaps his most famous protégé, and Harrell’s play in the season opener was giving Beaty flashbacks.
It wasn’t Harrell’s 13-yard touchdown reception that drew those mental comparisons, though. It was something a little more subtle.
“Chase Harrell and what he did in the blocking game out wide — man, he did some dirty work,” Beaty said Tuesday.
