Volquez is expected to rejoin the team when the Series moves to New York for Game 3 on Friday. Volquez is scheduled to be the Game 5 starter if that game is necessary on Sunday.
Volquez pitched six innings in Game 1 without the knowledge of his father's passing. He was given the news by his wife afterward in the clubhouse.
Volquez is the third Royals player to lose a parent this season. Right-hander Chris Young lost his father, Charles, in late September. Third baseman Mike Moustakas lost his mother, Connie, earlier this season.
