Now that the dust has settled a bit, I’ll ask: where does the 2015 team rank in Royals’ franchise history? No less an authority than George Brett claimed this version would beat the 1985 Royals. Far be it from me to question Brett, but is that true?
I think it is. A quick-and-dirty comparison by position is very favorable to the 2015 team:
Catcher: Salvador Perez vs. Jim Sundberg. Both terrific defensive catchers who posted an 89 OPS+ in their respective seasons. I give the nod to Salvy based on his power and better numbers throwing out baserunners.
