Strahm on DL with torn patellar tendon

KANSAS CITY -- Royals left-handed reliever Matt Strahm has a torn patellar tendon in his left knee, manager Ned Yost said Sunday morning.

Strahm had an MRI on Saturday, confirming the tear. Both Yost and Strahm said he will have a second opinion at some point this week, and neither offered any notions on recovery time.

"At this point, we don't know if it is surgical or non-surgical," Yost said.

Strahm, who went on the disabled list Saturday, pitched in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with the Twins, but he was removed with two outs in the fourth when he hit a batter and walked two others.
