Stat of the Day: Josh Staumont’s Debut

Josh Staumont made his Major League debut in Thursday’s 5–4 loss vs. Cleveland in 14.0 innings, five days after he was recalled from Triple-A Omaha.

He made his debut with scoreless 11th and 12th innings, becoming the third Royals pitcher to make his debut in extra innings, joining Scott Bankhead on May 25, 1986 vs. the White Sox (14th inning) and George Throop on Sept. 7, 1975 at the Angels (11th inning).

Staumont, the Royals’ second-round pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, is the the ninth Royals player to make his Major League debut this season, joining Frank Schwindel (March 28), Kyle Zimmer (March 31), Chris Ellis (March 31), Richard Lovelady (April 9), Kelvin Gutierrez (April 27), Nicky Lopez (May 14), Humberto Arteaga (June 20) and Bubba Starling (July 12).
