Royals sign Eric Hosmer to one-year deal

KANAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals on Friday signed Eric Hosmer to a one-year deal for $12.25 million, avoiding arbitration.

Hosmer, 27, hit .266 last year but had career highs with 25 home runs and 104 RBIs. Hosmer was paid $8.25 million in 2016, which was the final year on a two-year $13.9 million contract he signed before the start of the 2015 season.

Hosmer was MVP of the 2016 All-Star Game in which he had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Last year Hosmer led the team in runs scored (80) and walks (57).
