At The Athletic, Alec Lewis wrote about Edward Olivares through the stories told by Padres hitting coach Raul Padron:
At the time, the Padres were ready to give Olivares an everyday opportunity. Rather than take advantage of it, Olivares didn’t hustle.
“It was weird,” Padron said.
One afternoon, the Padres optioned him out of big-league camp. At 6 a.m. the next day, Padron had Olivares meet him in the cages. They didn’t hit. The two talked.
“What’s going on with you, bro?” Padron asked. “What’s happening? You have this great opportunity, and you’re throwing it away.
