If the schedule holds firm, Chris Young will have one more spring training start before making his regular-season debut on April 9 at Kauffman Stadium. After his latest outing, he probably will welcome the opportunity for more seasoning.
On Sunday afternoon, Young survived just 4 1/3 innings in a 10-1 loss to Oakland here at Hohokam Stadium. In his fifth start this spring, he allowed five earned runs (eight total) and nine hits. The A’s blasted two homers in the early innings before the Royals’ defense came apart in the bottom of the fifth.
Oakland’s Chris Coghlan opened the scoring by raking a two-run shot in the first inning.
