The Royals have called up right-handed pitcher Jake Newberry from AAA Omaha and have optioned down pitcher Jason Adam. The 23-year old Newberry had allowed just two earned runs in 20 innings of work for the Storm Chasers, for an ERA of 0.90. He had 16 strikeouts and six walks allowed, and opponents were hitting just .191/.263/.250 against him.
Newberry began the year at AA Northwest Arkansas where he had a 2.12 ERA in 29 2⁄3 innings with 37 strikeouts and just six unintentional walks. Newberry was originally a 37th-round selection in the 2012 draft out of Mira Mesa High School in San Diego.
