Royals Acquire OF Donnie Dewees from Cubs for RHP Alec Mills

The Royals have acquired minor league OF Donnie Dewees from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for RHP Alec Mills, who was designated for assignment earlier today to make room on the 40-man roster for Jason Hammel.

Dewees, 23, hit .284/.338/.416 (146-for-514) with 44 extra-base hits, 73 RBI and 31 stolen bases in 129 games between Class-A South Bend and Advanced-A Myrtle Beach in 2016. He played in 94 games at South Bend, where he led the Midwest League with 12 triples and was a midseason All-Star.

A left-handed batter and thrower, Dewees made starts at center field (107) and left field (15) last season.
