On April 2, 2007, Alex Gordon made his Major League debut, batting fifth in the Royals’ lineup. He became the fourth Royal to make his debut in the starting lineup on Opening Day, joining: Mark Teahen (2005), Michael Tucker (1995) and Joe Zdeb (1977).

Gordon recorded his first hit a few days later off Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Kansas City’s first-round pick (2nd overall) in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, Gordon entered the 2019 season — his 13th in the Majors — among the top 10 all-time in several Royals offensive categories:
