SURPRISE, Ariz.
As the Royals prepare to set their opening-day roster, they will have a decision to make on left-hander Brian Duensing.
On Monday morning, Duensing confirmed that he will exercise the opt-out clause in his minor-league deal. Duensing must opt-out by Tuesday. The Royals will have a window to add him to the 40-man roster or release him.
As Duensing arrived in the Royals’ clubhouse on Monday, he handed out hugs to third baseman Mike Moustakas and catcher Drew Butera. He stressed the goodbyes were simply “precautionary.” He was set to work out with the team on Monday and wait for the Royals’ decision.
