Kris Medlen gave up three earned runs in three innings Saturday as the Royals fell 3-0 to the Diamondbacks at Salt River Fields. All things considered, it could have been worse.
In the bottom of the third, Arizona’s David Peralta crushed a liner up the middle that came within inches of striking Medlen in the head. The moment stunned him, he said. By the end, he was able to brush off the close call.
“I think that’s the closest anyone’s ever got to killing me on a baseball field,” Medlen said. “A little scary.
