The Kansas City Royals announced today that outfielder Jon Jay and right-handed pitcher Kelvin Herrera have been named Royals Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for the month of May. The awards are determined by a local media vote.
Jay hit .368/.402/.439 in 27 games with 43 hits, one behind Francisco Lindor for the Major League lead, becoming the second Royal with at least 43 hits in the month of May, joining George Brett (48 in 1976 & 47 in 1979). The last Royal with more hits in any calendar month was Johnny Damon (47) in August 2000, his 214-hit season.
