Jason Vargas isn’t starting his season the way he’d like. In his first 4 starts, he’s got an ERA of nearly 6, while posting a strikeout-to-walk ratio of just a hair over 1. His WHIP is 1.73, after putting up a 1.27 in 2014, and he’s averaging fewer than 5 innings per start. For a guy who makes his money thanks to an ability to eat innings without allowing too many runs, it’s safe to say things aren’t going to plan.
