The Royals will be without All-Star catcher Salvador Perez, who injured his knee while carrying his luggage. I wish I were making that up. Drew Butera takes over as the Opening Day starter, with Cam Gallagher up from the farm to be his understudy.
The Royals will carry just 12 position players due to their positional flexibility on the roster. Reserve infielder Ryan Goins is capable of playing both middle infield positions and Cheslor Cuthbert can play both corner infield positions.
