Denny Matthews didn’t plan on a career in broadcasting. His school didn’t even offer it as a course of study. Speech class was the closest option to it.
“When you’re young, you’re more interested in playing,” Matthews said. “I didn’t even think about broadcasting.”
After his freshman year, a Giants scout asked him if he was interested in playing professional baseball.
