KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Danny Duffy has been a Kansas City Royal his entire adult life. A year from now, Duffy could have become a free agent and certainly could have signed a more lucrative deal.
But then again, this is Danny Duffy, the man who back when the Royals were still floundering once tweeted “bury me a Royal.” So during his news conference Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium, Duffy explained why he signed a below-market deal of five years for $65 million to remain with the Royals.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Duffy said.
On the open market, Duffy likely could have received at least $10-20 million more.
