Royals Draft Rumors: Top First Round Prospects Linked To Kansas City

The 2017 MLB Draft is Monday and the Kansas City Royals hold the No. 14 pick this year. With the draft just days away, the rumor mill is abuzz with prospects the Royals could select in round one. The Royals could go several different directions, from pitching to offense and both high school and college prospects. Some of the more common options are below, though several players not listed could be the selection. Some of the latest rumored picks are below, with some notes on each player, are below.

LHP D.L. Hall (High school, Georgia)
Baseball America seems convinced the Royals will add a prep arm, with Hall the latest selection. CBS Sports also mocks Hall to the Royals. The lefty is committed to Florida State, but the expectation is that he's signable. He has a quality fastball and one of the better curveballs this year. There's always risk with high school pitchers, but Hall has mid-rotation ability. Other prep pitchers to watch for Kansas City include Shane Baz from Texas and Trevor Rogers of New Mexico.

3B Jake Burger, Missouri State
In the latest FanGraphs mock, Hall went off the board one pick before the Royals. So, they take 3B Jake Burger from Missouri State. The Royals recently sent a big group to scout Burger, so there's interest in him. Burger, who was an unknown player not long ago, has one of the most productive bats this year. In his last two years, he's hit 43 homers, with batting averages of .349 and .333. The right-handed hitter could advance quickly if he thrives against lefties as expected. Keep an eye on Vanderbilt outfielder Jeren Kendall too.

LHP Trevor Rogers (High School, New Mexico)
Rogers has slid in the recent mock drafts, but he makes sense for the Royals if other pitchers (like Baz and North Carolina's J.B. Bukauskas are off the board). A lanky and tall lefty, Rogers can hit the mid-90s with his fastball. Rogers has been linked to the Royals in the past, but the last week or so he has dropped past Kansas City. Prep pitchers are risky, but the lefty's upside is intriguing.
