Halftime observations: Chiefs 17, Jets 3

It’s halftime at Arrowhead Stadium, and the Chiefs lead the New York Jets 17-3 in their Week 3 tilt. Here are some quick thoughts.

1. After slow starts in their first two games, the Chiefs’ offense looks better today. There is run-pass balance, and the Chiefs have broken out six different personnel groupings, including an ultra-rare “14” personnel group featuring four tight ends. The Chiefs threw out of it, too.

2. Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s playcalling has generally been pretty solid in this half, but the three plays they ran on the Jets’ 3-yard line was sure to cause some consternation among fans, as they continued to throw horizontally instead of simply pounding the ball up the middle and ended up losing 6 yards before settling for a field goal.
