Giving up on KeiVarae Russell so quickly is a strange move

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- It became evident early in the preseason that rookie cornerback KeiVarae Russell, a third-round draft pick from Notre Dame, wasn’t progressing as the Kansas City Chiefs hoped.

He fell behind another rookie cornerback, D.J. White, on the depth chart. He played just four snaps in the second preseason game at a time when draft picks should be getting more playing time and not less. The Chiefs were so concerned about their depth at cornerback they felt compelled to send a draft pick to the 49ers for Kenneth Acker.
