Of all the lessons Jaguars wide receiver Tony Washington learned during his first season in the NFL, the biggest was also the harshest.
In a rookie year he termed “humbling,” Washington came to realize that performing well through training camp and the preseason doesn’t guarantee a spot on a 53-man roster.

“I know now that I have to take somebody’s spot,” said Washington, who spent last year’s preseason with the Indianapolis Colts and had three catches for 33 yards. “I know I need to be working on every little thing that I can during the offseason to make sure I come back better than I was last season and to show the coaches I didn’t just sit around.
