The Jaguars hoped they sparked their dormant running game today by adding former New York Jets tailback Chris Ivory. ESPN reported that Ivory will sign Wednesday and the Jaguars will release Toby Gerhart.
The Jaguars finished 27th in rushing last year.
Enter Ivory to team with T.J. Yeldon.
Ivory is a physical runner; opponents have described his style as “violent.” The 6-foot, 222-pound Ivory excels in gaining yards after contact.
Ivory’s arrival means Denard Robinson moves down to third-team tailback.
Gerhart's release frees up $3.5 million in cap space.
Ivory isn’t the splashy athlete other free agent backs like Matt Forte or Lamar Miller are, but Ivory figures to be the short-yardage back the Jaguars thought they were getting in Gerhart.
