NFL owners voted today to change the point-after procedure, effective for this upcoming season.
Extra-point kicks will now be snapped from the 15-yard line, meaning the kick will now measure 33 yards. The extra-point kick was previously snapped from the 1-yard line.
Two-point attempts will remain from the 2-yard line. The Philadelphia Eagles proposed that play be moved up to the 1-yard line.
In a change to the two-point conversion play, the defensive team can return a two-point attempt the other way for two points via interception or fumble return.
The owners wanted to make the point-after kick more of a football play and give coaches something else to consider – a longer kick or the existing two-point attempt.
