NFL Look-ahead: With Dallas' hopes fleeting, will Jerry Jones turn sights toward Sean Payton?

Dallas is done.

At 2-6, the toe tag can be applied to the Cowboys season.

Dallas was 2-0 when Tony Romo broke his collarbone. The Cowboys could be 2-7 when he is eligible to return from short-term injured reserve next week.

Really, what Dallas does Sunday at Tampa Bay is irrelevant.

The Cowboys, 12-4 last season, are finished.

Dallas sits 2½ games behind the NFC East-leading New York Giants and is two games back of Philadelphia.

Sure, one of those two could collapse in the second half, but it’s unlikely both will. Dallas also doesn’t have another game against the Giants or Eagles to aid in any potential slump.
