Left tackle may not be a training camp competition for the Jaguars — it will be Kelvin Beachum’s job to lose assuming he comes back from his knee injury.
That leaves strong safety as the most compelling preseason battle.
The incumbent is Johnathan Cyprien, the former second-round pick entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract.
The challenger is James Sample, a 2015 fourth-round pick.
On the surface, Cyprien would be the odds-on favorite to retain the position. He has 44 games (all starts) and 316 tackles.
