Jaguars' TE Marcedes Lewis hopes to be back next season

After 10 seasons at age 31, Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis isn’t even thinking that the end of his career could be near.

“I’m just ready to go until the wheels fall off and the engine doesn’t run anymore,’’ Lewis said Monday as Jaguars players cleaned out their lockers after a 5-11 season.

Just a year ago, after missing five games in 2013 and eight in 2014 with injuries, Lewis’ engine looked a bit worse for wear.

He understands why the Jaguars decided to cut his salary from $6.65 million to $2.65 million. He was in the final year of a five- year, $34 million deal he signed in 2011.
