With Chris Ivory signing a five-year contract today, the Jaguars are releasing tailback Toby Gerhart.
General manager Dave Caldwell said Gerhart was set to be cut at 4 p.m.
Gerhart was to count for $3.5 million on the 2016 salary cap.
Signed to replace Maurice Jones-Drew as the Jaguars’ starting running back in 2014, Gerhart never got going, mostly because of injury.
Gerhart rushed 121 times for 370 yards and two touchdowns in 21 games for the Jaguars.
In 2014, Gerhart injured his ankle on a horse-collar tackle by Philadelphia’s Fletcher Cox. Gerhart finished that game and continued to play before he was shut down for two games.
