Among those surprised when the Jaguars drafted Louisville strong safety James Sample in the fourth round last weekend with the intention of moving to free safety was … James Sample.
“When I found that out, it was kind of shocking,” he said Thursday after reporting to EverBank Field ahead of this weekend’s rookie minicamp. “But I’m ready for the task.”
Free safety, a competition between Sample and veteran addition Sergio Brown, will be one of the most intriguing sub-plots when the veterans join the rookies on the field for organized team activities later this month and certainly when the pads go on in early August.
