Jaguars in Review: Defense flopped on the big screen

It might have been the most inexcusable play of a so-far inexcusable Jaguars season.

The Jaguars led Tampa Bay 24-20 late in Sunday’s third quarter. The Buccaneers had a third-and-15 from their 15-yard line.

The Jaguars rushed four defensive linemen plus linebacker Dan Skuta.

Quarterback Jameis Winston released the football in 2.29 seconds to running back Charles Sims, who caught the pass four yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Sims then changed the game by gaining 56 yards on a screen pass. Yes, a screen pass.

It sparked a Buccaneers’ field goal and the start of an 18-0 run during a 38-31 victory.
