Gus Bradley hangs on among 2013 coaching hires

Gus Bradley may not have the best record in the NFL and he certainly doesn’t get much support for the long slog that has been the Jacksonville Jaguars rebuild, but he’s among the top half in at least one measurement: sticking with his team.

In 2013 eight teams had turnover at head coach:

  • The Philadelphia Eagles passed on longtime head honcho Andy Reid, opting for college mastermind Chip Kelly
  • The Arizona Cardinals abandoned Ken Whisenhunt for 2012 sensation Bruce Arians
  • Mike Mularkey was kicked out the door after just one season with the Jaguars in favor of Gus Bradley
  • Rob Chudzinski replaced Pat Shurmer for the Browns (and most of the NFL didn’t even notice)
  • Marc Trestman came down from Canada to usurp Lovie Smith’s spot with the Chicago Bears
  • Doug Marrone replaced Chan Gailey with the Buffalo Bills (another move most of the NFL didn’t notice)
  • Andy Reid found a new home quickly, ousting Romeo Crennell with the Kansas City Chiefs
  • Norv Turner was finally replaced by the San Diego Chargers in favor of Mike McCoy

All told, three head coaches who had taken their teams to the Super Bowl (Smith, Whisenhunt, and Reid) were kicked out.
