Gene Frenette: Team is a long way from being a contender

SAN DIEGO | Don’t even try to put the blame for the lowest point in the Gus Bradley era on a West Coast road trip. That’s a flat-out copout, a feeble attempt to divert attention from a bigger problem — the Jaguars aren’t the team they or a lot of us thought they were.

Not yet anyway. Even worse, they’re not progressing enough in this so-called race to maturity that Bradley emphasized would be the hallmark of his tenure.

After players repeatedly told everyone following an admirable performance in last week’s 27-23 defeat to the Green Bay Packers that losing was unacceptable, they traveled three time zones away and proved just the opposite.
