Gene Frenette: Pair cut by Jaguars were poor investments

It was no surprise the Jaguars released veterans Zane Beadles and Chris Clemons. Still, their departure doesn’t reflect well on general manager Dave Caldwell or coach Gus Bradley because the team got little return on those investments.

Beadles, signed to a five-year, $30 million contract the moment the 2014 free agency period opened, turned out to be no more than a serviceable left guard. That’s not a shrewd business move for a player given $12.45 million over two years.

As for Clemons, he was brought aboard because the Jaguars were desperate for pass-rush help.
