Gene Frenette: Getting harder for Patriots to erase label as cheaters

Judging by the NFL’s release of the Deflategate investigation into the New England Patriots deflating footballs, it sure looks like quarterback Tom Brady might be seeing some tarnish on his golden-boy image.

The 243-page Ted Wells report concluded that two Patriots employees – officials locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski – likely participated in a “deliberate effort “ to release air from game balls before the AFC Championship game and that Brady was “at least generally aware” of their inappropriate activities.

While the report absolved Patriots coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft of having any direct knowledge, the bottom line is some kind of punishment is likely coming the team’s way.
