Gene Frenette: Forget extra year for Gus Bradley if he doesn't win next season

While the Jaguars insist handing coach Gus Bradley and his assistants a one-year contract extension provides stability and might spur targeted free agents to sign with the team, it’s hard to not think of this as mostly window dressing.

Now an extension is meaningful to coaches who get more financial security in case of being fired, but it doesn’t change the fact players inside the locker room and prospective free agents know this staff is, and should be, on a collective hot seat.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan won’t be able to sell season-ticket holders on bringing Bradley or anyone back should the Jaguars have another losing season, and even 8-8 ought to give him pause.
