Gene Frenette: Decision to jettison Josh Scobee looks like winner

Putting aside the questionable play-calling by Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin in Thursday’s 23-20 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, one thing is certain: Any second-guessing of Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell for trading kicker Josh Scobee has subsided.

Not only did Scobee miss critical field-goal attempts from 49 and 41 yards in the fourth quarter, but Tomlin refused to give him a chance to win the game from 50 yards in overtime.

If not for Tomlin’s two puzzling calls of not using elite running back Le’Veon Bell on two fourth-and-short situations, the venting status toward Scobee in Pittsburgh would be at DEFCON 1.
