Gene Frenette: Andrew Luck's huge contract can be big deal for Blake Bortles

It’s hard to imagine any player outside the Indianapolis Colts locker room doing more cartwheels over Andrew Luck’s six-year, $140 million contract than Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, who could be in line for a lucrative extension in 2017.

Even with a monster, playoff-bound season this year, Bortles might not command Luck-type money. But an improvement in his touchdown-interception ratio (35-18) from 2015, plus the Jaguars reaching a minimum eight wins, could well push his next contract into the $100 million-plus neighborhood.

Frankly, the Jaguars want him to earn that kind of coin because Bortles’ continued ascension will likely validate this franchise as building toward sustained success.
