Nick Marshall had no objection last week when he was issued No. 41 for Jaguars rookie minicamp.
“It’s still 14 — just backward,” he said with a laugh.
Opposite number.
Opposite side of the football.
For two years, he was linked to No. 14 and the Auburn quarterback position — he threw for 4,508 yards and rushed for 1,866 yards for the Tigers.
But seeing his best NFL chance was at cornerback, Marshall switched to defense before the Senior Bowl. He made enough of an impression there to earn an NFL Combine invitation (although he did quarterback drills) and landed with the Jaguars after going undrafted.
