For Jags' rookies, an education to adjust to NFL life on Friday

When Mark Lamping joined the St. Louis Cardinals’ front office in 1994, Major League Baseball didn’t have the kind of rookie orientation like the Jaguars had this week.

“It’s night and day, no question,” said Lamping, now the Jaguars’ president, describing professional sports’ attempt to give rookies a softer landing.

Marcus Pollard had a similar response when asked if the NFL had such a set-up when he was an Indianapolis Colts tight end 21 years ago.

“We had nothing like this,” said Pollard, now the Jaguars’ director of player development. “I got all my information — pitfalls, dos and don’ts — from guys in the locker room.
