Five Jaguars-Ravens storylines: Explosive plays have fizzled

1. Will the Jaguars start pushing the football down the field more often?

Well, the statistics say quarterback Blake Bortles is taking shots downfield. It just doesn’t feel like it.

Through two games, Bortles had attempted more passes that didn’t cross the line of scrimmage (20) than have traveled 16 or more yards downfield (17). On those 17 passes, Bortles is 7 of 17 for 190 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Spin it another step forward: Bortles has 40 passes that have traveled less than six yards downfield. Only three of those passes have resulted in chunk plays, completions of 37, 17 and 16 yards.
