Carolina rescinds tag on CB Josh Norman, opening door for Jaguars, other

Last month, the Jaguars missed out on one of the top defensive free agents when pass rusher Olivier Vernon signed with the New York Giants.

But in a shocking development Wednesday, another top player became available … and the Jaguars are in position to pounce.

The Carolina Panthers rescinded the franchise tag on All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman, allowing him to sign with any team without draft-pick compensation.

“After a number of conversations with Josh’s agent, we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable,” Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement. “We have decided to rescind the franchise tag, freeing Josh to immediately become [a free agent].
