IOWA CITY — The Friday before the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Kyven Gadson had the Olympic rings shaved into the back of his head. A family friend came to Ames for the occasion. It was the latest in a long line of haircut designs made by the former Iowa State wrestler.
“I always do things to my hair before big tournaments,” Gadson said. “Before the 2013 NCAA tournament, I put “Gadson Strong” in it. In 2014, I can’t remember what I did. In high school, I put “Showtime.” Last year, I just did the Iowa State logo.
